Art walk last night. Met up with a good friend that I never really gave myself a chance to get to know when we first met about two years ago. It was a nice evening :]
We met at Volta where I was introduced to a local community band that performs Klezmer, a Jewish musical style. The style combines very serious rhythmic drive and melodic complexity with a sense of zany and wacky fun that really appeals to me. I would very much like to try my hand at throwing some cello into the pot. I could double melody lines in a lower octave, double the upright bass arco style, play double stops in unison with the electric piano back beats, or perhaps fill in some of the harmonies viola-style. This particular group's instrumentation is wind-heavy with only one violin player competing against clarinets, a sax, a euphonium, a flute, and a trumpet (at least). It would be really cool to do a massed harmonized arco passage with the bass on bottom, the cello in the middle, and the violin on top ^_^
Just got back from a jaunt that included breakfast at a fine restaurant in the Haile quadrant of planet Pupulon and an exploration of sadly frost-damaged Kanapaha. Their carnivorous plant garden was almost totally obliterated, but fortunately someone constructed a neat bamboo-and-water decorative mechanical scultpure.
Now: More natural language processing assignments.
Now: Frustrated because my installation of Ubuntu 8.10 is randomly crashing Opal, my dear laptop
Now: Don't really want to spend time diagnosing the problem. Will probably just reinstall 8.04 when I have a few moments.
Now: Fortunate that setting up my Emacs/Prolog development environment was easy peezy.
